How to get a forklift licence in Melbourne?

  1. Find an authorised Registered Training Organisation (RTO) that provides comprehensive forklift courses and practical training. 
  2. Apply for a course and enrol into a certified training organisation that suits you best. To find the closest RTO to you visit the MySkills website which offers a handy search tool to locate a suitable provider.
  3. After you’ve completed your training and theory components, you will then need to take a written and practical examination.
  4. Once you have successfully passed all the required training, the RTO will provide you with the below documents:
    – Statement of Attainment
    – Notice of Assessment
    – AS1 Application Form
  5. To lodge an application with WorkSafe, you’ll need to have all the above documents in order. Once you’ve filled out the necessary forms, head to your nearby Australia Post to lodge them.

What are the main qualities do you need for a forklift licence?

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Have a basic understanding of English in both written and verbal forms
  • Must be a resident in Australia

What are the different types of forklift licenses?

In Australia, there are several types of licences when operating different machinery. They include: 

  • Forklift Truck (LF) – a permit to operate any forklift (except for order pickers)
  • Order Picker Machine (LO) – a permit to operate stock picker forklifts

How long does a forklift licence last?

A forklift licence will last for 5 years and must be renewed to continue operating the machinery.
